We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate professional in the field of Special Education or Elementary Education with a specialized knowledge in behavior as a full-time Learning Specialist to provide services for clients in a variety of settings (home, clinic and community and school). 

Position Overview: 

The Learning Specialist is responsible for providing individualized academic support to students in various settings, including classrooms, clinics, and homes. This role involves working closely with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, while also collaborating with school teams, parents, and other professionals to create and implement effective educational plans. The Learning Specialist will focus on ensuring that students receive the appropriate support for their learning needs, advocating for accommodations, and enhancing academic outcomes. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Individual and Small Group Instruction: Provide personalized 1:1 support to students within the classroom, clinic, or home environments, focusing on academic progress and skill development. 
  • Collaboration with Educational Teams: Work collaboratively with a range of team members, including school professionals (e.g., principals, special education teachers, classroom teachers), family members, and external specialists to ensure cohesive student support. 
  • Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs): Assist in the development and ongoing review of Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for students, working alongside the school team to implement tailored instructional strategies, accommodations, and modifications. 
  • Team Meetings and Communication: Attend and actively participate in regular team meetings with school personnel and parents to discuss student progress, challenges, and goals. Ensure that there is clear communication and alignment between all parties involved in the student's education. 
  • Lesson Coordination and Recommendations: Collaborate with teachers to obtain lesson plans, provide feedback, and offer recommendations for accommodations and modifications that support students' academic success. 
  • Data Collection and Progress Monitoring: Gather and analyze data on student progress toward specific goals and objectives, using evidence-based methods to inform instruction and make adjustments as necessary. Regularly update the team on student performance and document changes in goals or strategies. 
  • Professional Development and Training: Participate in ongoing professional development, including specialized training in Empower Writing, Brain Frames, and upcoming Orton-Gillingham (OG) methodologies. 
  • Coordination of Communication: Serve as a liaison between the school and parents, ensuring regular and effective communication regarding student progress, strategies, and needs. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and families. 
  • Experience working with students with varying learning needs, especially those requiring specialized instructional strategies. 
  • Knowledge of current educational practices and frameworks, including individualized learning plans and academic accommodations. 
  • Training or willingness to be trained in Empower Writing, Brain Frames, and Orton-Gillingham. 

Work Environment: 

This position involves working in diverse educational settings, including schools, clinics, and potentially students' homes. The Learning Specialist will be expected to travel between locations as needed and must be adaptable to different learning environments.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Provide 1:1 academic tutoring for young children, elementary and middle school-aged students in a variety of settings including the Aspen office and community libraries 
  • Keep children engaged in learning activities while providing short breaks throughout the session if needed 
  • Collect data during all tutoring sessions 
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans and respond appropriately to all challenging behaviors if necessary 
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with lead Board Certified Behavior Analyst to make modifications to instruction, programming, or behavior plans 
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide uniform, high-quality sessions 
  • Attend monthly team meetings for all clients 
  • Hours of tutoring services may range between 9am-6pm 

Schedule: 

  • Monday to Friday 
  • School year hours: 8:00-6:00 PM 
  • Summer hours range between 8:00-6:00PM 
  • Travel requirement 
  • Location: Aspen – Carbondale

  • Community settings such as libraries, summer camps and parks 
  • In-person at Thrive Aspen Office located in the Aspen Airport Business Center

What We Need: 

  • 2+ years working with children in a school setting or special education services as a teaching assistant, therapist or teacher 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, communication disorders, special education, behavior analysis or a related field 
  • Willingness to learn new therapeutic skills, focusing on naturalistic intervention in typical settings 
  • A love of learning and teaching, and a desire to improve your practice 
  • Physically able to perform job responsibilities (active movement, lifting up to 40 lbs.) 
  • Mode of reliable transportation 
  • Experience and desire to support children through challenging behaviors 

Our Preferred Experience: 

  • Current RBT Certification 
  • Reading Specialist certifications or additional trainings 
  • 2+ years implementing ABA therapy with significant experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Natural Environment Training (NET), Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) or Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) therapy 
  • Master’s coursework in Special Education 
  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, education, communication disorders, special education, behavior analysis or a related field 

Salary and Benefits 

  • Start date ASAP  
  • Full Time (30 or 40 hour options available) 
  • Full time 40 hour salary: Ranges from $60,000-$62,000/year depending on experience.
